Best Brown Unscented is Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s flaked record that, unlike the firm's essenced Lakeland lines, carries no flavouring at all. It contains various Virginia leaves, Malawi burley, and a measured amount of African-sourced dark fire-cured leaf; the mixture is steam-cooked and pressed into the traditional flake form. Without a topping, the taste comes directly from the leaf itself: Virginia's bread-like sweetness, burley's nutty, earthy tone, and the fire-cured leaf's light smoke in the background all sit together. It is a full-bodied record in terms of nicotine.
