Because the leaves are twisted and wound into a roll, the tobacco takes on a dense, oily, tight structure. On the smoke, earthy, woody, and spicy notes stand out; a cocoa-like sweetness remains in the background, and the overall character leans toward cigar leaf. Sources indicate it isn't at the strongest end among rope tobaccos, but it's still considered strong. It needs to be thinly sliced and rubbed out before use.
