Blend

Larus & Brother Company, Inc Hi-Plane

Hi-Plane is one of Larus & Brother Company's blends combining Virginia and Burley leaves. Records indicate deer tongue, a plant often used in old American pipe tobaccos, was added to the mix; since this plant contains coumarin, it gives the blend a natural sweetness reminiscent of vanilla and freshly cut grass. This achieves a lightly flavored character without becoming a syrupy aromatic. On the flavor axis, Burley's nutty, bready base sits alongside Virginia's sugar; body is medium. The blend was discontinued long ago and today is found only among the rare records in old stock tins.
