McClelland No. 800 Black and Lemon

No. 800 Black and Lemon was a Cavendish-Virginia blend in the aromatic wing of McClelland's numbered bulk series. Its name comes from the contrast it builds: dark black Cavendish and light, lemon-toned Carolina Virginia ribbon cut sit side by side in the same pouch. Rather than being sprayed directly onto the surface, the flavoring is worked into the leaf via McClelland's English-style heat-maturation method; the resulting taste runs along vanilla and caramel lines. While the black Cavendish gives the blend mildness and a syrupy base, the light Virginia leaf balances it with tangy sweetness. It's a light-on-nicotine record with limited tongue bite. The blend was withdrawn from the market when McClelland stopped production in 2018.
