P. Lorillard Union Leader

Union Leader is one of the grocery-shelf classics P. Lorillard — founded in 1760 and considered America's oldest continuously operating tobacco manufacturer — sold throughout the twentieth century. Its body is built from burley, joined by bright Virginia, and the blend was sold ribbon cut, in two-ounce pouches at times and fourteen-ounce large tins at others. Records indicate the leaf received a light maple-direction flavoring; this topping isn't pronounced enough to place the blend in the aromatic class, and mainly rounds off burley's nutty, earthy taste.
