Pfeifen Huber Epikur

Epikur is the Munich house Pfeifen Huber's unflavored Virginia blend, sold as a plug, meaning a pressed block. Only Virginia leaf is used in the blend, with no flavoring added. Plug tobaccos are made by pressing leaf under high pressure; this method helps the tobacco retain moisture over long periods and is recorded as having historically been developed to keep tobacco from drying out on long sea voyages. Before smoking, the block needs to be cut into cubes or thin flakes and then aired. Turkish-language records report that the tobacco is exceptionally moist straight out of the box, that it stays damp inside even after months left open, and that this creates real difficulty in lighting and keeping it lit. It offers a medium strength and medium-intensity flavor.
