Wesley's No. 19 Pure Latakia

No. 19 Pure Latakia is a single-varietal product South African tobacconist Wesley's offers under a "for blending" heading; it's not a mixture but straight Latakia leaf. Latakia is a leaf processed by smoking over fire, taking its distinctive smoky character from that process. The maker states this tobacco is used within a blend to cut the weight of flavoring and reduce an overly sugary impression, typically making up at most fifteen percent of the mixture. Smoked on its own, the taste consists entirely of soot, wood, leather, and resinous tones; natural sugar is nearly absent, so smoking it alone isn't common.
