Jud's Pipe Shop

An American tobacconist shop that operated in Houston, also offering pipes and blends stamped with its own name; what is known about it rests largely on surviving catalogue pages.

Jud's Pipe Shop was an American tobacconist shop that operated in Houston. Records place its founding in 1940. Today the name is known mainly through pipes bearing the shop's stamp and a handful of catalogue pages that circulate among collectors; no archival record independent of the shop's own materials has been found.

Source of the Information

The core of what is known about Jud's comes from surviving pages of a catalogue said to date from 1968 and to belong to the shop. These pages are cited on Pipedia with third-party attribution; PipoWiki has not been able to independently access a copy. Questions such as changes in ownership, how many people the shop employed, and when it closed go unanswered in any source. For this reason, the entry is limited to the few points that can be substantiated. This is not unusual in American shop history: most local tobacconists left no written trace beyond trade directories, and what remains has been left to catalogues and stamped examples passed from hand to hand.
