Pipe Brands
DG Pipe (Gabriele Dal Fiume)
The one-man workshop of Italian pipe maker Gabriele Dal Fiume, who works near Bologna and produces only a few dozen one-of-a-kind pipes a year.
DG Pipe is the brand under which Italian pipe maker Gabriele Dal Fiume signs pipes with his own name. Production, carried out in a one-man workshop in the Bologna region, is not organized as series manufacturing but is measured only in a few dozen pieces a year; every pipe is unique. The brand is considered a typical representative of the workshop-maker generation that came to prominence after the 1990s within the Italian handmade pipe tradition.
The Maker's Path
Dal Fiume is among the makers who came to the bench as a collector. By his own account, he collected pipes for years before moving into production, touring workshops and museums in Italy and abroad to follow the field's literature; his equal embrace of both classic molds and the freehand approach is a trace of this period. The workshop's founding year is not precisely documented; available promotional texts indicate the first pipes were made in the mid-1990s. Since that date, the maker has regularly taken part in exhibitions and given talks on pipe making.
