Pipe Brands
Directory of German Pipe Brands (1/2)
A briefly annotated directory of workshop, factory, and brand names that produced pipes in Germany; this part covers 90 entries between Aachen and Van Wandeir.
The Directory of German Pipe Brands is the first part of a two-part list aiming to gather in one place the brand names left behind by German pipe making. Germany has a history in the industrialized production of briar pipes as deep as that of France or England: factories around the Thuringian Forest, the clay-pipe tradition of the Westerwald, and the nationalized workshops of postwar East Germany gave rise to very different production cultures.
Add to this the growing number of one-man freehand workshops after the 1980s, and what emerges is a broad universe of brands, most of which survive today only as a few lines of information; this directory records that universe.
