Pipe Brands

Georg Jensen

A Danish pipe manufacturer founded in Copenhagen in 1954 that remained a family business for roughly half a century. It closed in 2001.

Georg Jensen is a Danish pipe business founded in Copenhagen in 1954 by Per Georg Jensen and his wife. It is a separate concern from the famous Danish silver house of the same name; the resemblance stems from a very common combination of first and last name in the country. The brand grew during the years the Danish school was rising, and built a system that moved back and forth between series production and hand-shaped upper tiers.

Forty-Seven Years as a Family Business

The business remained in the same family's hands from its founding to its closure. From the 1980s onward, management was taken over by the founder's daughter Lis and her brother, who shared his father's name, Per Georg Jensen. Production scale, according to records, ran around two thousand pipes a year, positioning the brand as a mid-sized producer set apart from the era's giant Danish factories. The workshop kept both catalogue models multiplied at the bench and top-tier examples finished one by one under the same roof.
