Johny Pipes

A handmade pipe workshop founded by Meysam Jahani in Babol, Iran, known for its calabash and reverse-calabash chamber arrangements.

Johny Pipes is a handmade pipe workshop founded by Meysam Jahani in the city of Babol in northern Iran. Records indicate that what began in 2018 as a one-man bench turned within a few years into a recognized signature reaching retailers beyond Iran as well. The workshop's visibility owes largely to a maker from a country without a deep-rooted pipemaking tradition reaching international collectors through self-taught skill.

Founding and the Maker

According to the account given, Meysam Jahani sat down at the bench not with a career goal in mind but as a side pursuit during a period when his university work had stalled. The maker never went through an apprenticeship at any workshop; he is said to have developed his hand skills largely by watching instructional videos online, receiving support during this process from fellow Iranian pipemaker Aref Rahimi. What began as a part-time pursuit quickly turned into a full-time occupation, with production gathered under the Johny Pipes signature. The workshop's visibility outside Iran grew as it entered the collections of pipe retailers based in the United States.

This path is considered a typical recent example of the artisan pipe versus factory pipe distinction: small-scale, single-maker production can reach international buyers directly without being confined to its home country's domestic market.
