Pipe Brands

Neerup (Peder Jeppesen)

The brand made by Danish pipe maker Peder Christian Jeppesen at his workshop in Lejre, known for balanced proportions and shank ornamentation.

Neerup is the brand Danish pipe maker Peder Christian Jeppesen built not under his own name but under one drawn from family history. "Neerup" is the surname of one of the maker's grandmothers. The workshop sits in Lejre, near Roskilde, one of Denmark's oldest towns. The brand is known for combining the hand-finished workshop-pipe ethos with the scale discipline of series production.

Years of Apprenticeship

Jeppesen's history at the bench goes back to the mid-1980s. He apprenticed in the workshop of Karl Erik Ottendahl, then moved on to Erik Nørding, staying for years and learning every stage of production from rough-cutting to ornamental finishing. These two stops place him squarely within the postwar Danish School tradition, in whose orbit large manufacturers such as Stanwell also played a role in spreading the formal language.

The move to production under his own name, according to records, took place in 2001. When Georg Jensen's pipe production ceased, Jeppesen took over the idle lathes and mold equipment; these machines long formed the backbone of Neerup production. The workshop today runs as a family business: Jeppesen shares design and bench work with his son, Christian Noah, while correspondence and shipping are handled by his wife, Bettina.
