Pipe Brands

Rovera

A family name born near Varese in 1911 with four brothers, one of the longest-running lineages in Italian pipemaking; the Ardor and Fe-Ro brands both trace back to this root.

Rovera is a family name born in 1911 in northern Italy, near Varese, that left its mark on the following century of Italian pipemaking. The brand no longer produces under its own name today; even so, two established houses still working in Italy are direct continuations of that original workshop. For this reason the Rovera name is remembered not as a single brand but as the starting point of a family tree.

The Four Brothers' Workshop

The business was founded by the brothers Federico, Carlo, Cornelio and Francesco Rovera. According to records, all four had worked at the Rossi factory before opening their own workshop, and had become closely familiar with its mass-production system there. Their business, associated in records with Groppello, part of Gavirate, opened in 1911 and followed a similar path: production relied heavily on machine lathes, and pipes made from briar were shipped under the Rovera stamp to various countries in Europe. Varese and its surroundings were, in those years, the region where Italian pipe manufacturing was concentrated; the Rovera brothers are counted among the early links in that cluster.
