Pipe Brands
Yashtylov (Viktor Yashtylov)
The workshop Viktor Yashtylov of Saint Petersburg founded in 2005; counted among the most-cited names in contemporary Russian pipemaking for its freehand designs and its magnetic mouthpiece-to-shank connection.
Yashtylov is the name for the handmade pipes Russian maker Viktor Yashtylov produces at his workshop in Saint Petersburg. The workshop was founded in the spring of 2005; since then, Yashtylov has become a name recognized beyond his own country both for the freehand shapes he designs and for the unusual solution he uses to join the mouthpiece to the body.
The Road to the Workshop
According to records, he was born in Saint Petersburg in 1971 and has lived his whole life in that city. He entered pipemaking in the very early 2000s, working first for himself; because his early years went into learning and setting up his bench, his work only reached a wider audience around 2004-2005. The workshop's formal beginning is cited as spring 2005. Yashtylov has accepted custom commissions alongside ready-made pipes from the start: making a pipe from a sketch or photo sent by a customer, producing a copy of a lost pipe, repairing a broken shank, restoring a worn chamber, and fitting a new mouthpiece are all among the workshop's services. The order period is stated to run one to two months depending on workload.
