Pipe Brands
Yello-Bole
An American pipe brand born as Kaywoodie's economy sister line; known for its honey-additive bowl coating and Brylon, its synthetic body material.
Yello-Bole is a brand that has stood in the mass-production wing of the American pipe industry for over ninety years. It takes its name from the yellowish coating applied inside the chamber, and owes much of its recognition to that coating and the advertising language built around it.
Born as a Byproduct
The brand's starting point was a commercial calculation: making use of raw material that failed to pass selection. Kaufmann Bros. & Bondy was an established New York firm founded in 1851, and it put the briar blocks it set aside for its flagship Kaywoodie through strict sorting of briar. Whatever fell outside that selection sat idle; the Yello-Bole line is said to have settled into exactly that gap in 1932, taking the bottom rung on the firm's price ladder.
Production arrangements followed the same logic. While the firm's own workshops operated in New Jersey, manufacturing for the new line was handed to the group's affiliated firm in New Hampshire, The New England Briar Pipe Company, putting idle capacity to work. This detail rests only on accounts in pipe literature and is not supported by an independent corporate record.
