Tobaccos
English Blend
A classic blend family built from Latakia, oriental tobaccos, and Virginia, prepared without added artificial flavoring. Its smoky, layered character makes it one of the most established categories in the pipe world.
English blend is one of the most established and respected categories of pipe tobacco. Today the term is generally used to describe blends that contain Latakia and have no added artificial flavoring.
Historical Background
The category's name traces back to tobacco-purity regulations that remained in force in the United Kingdom for many years. Because these regulations strictly limited the additives that could be introduced into tobacco, English producers made a tradition of building character through the skillful combination of tobacco types rather than through flavoring. "English style" gradually became the general name for unflavored blends.
