Samuel Gawith St. James Plug
St. James Plug is a tobacco Samuel Gawith prepares in Kendal by pressing Virginia leaves together with Perique and leaving them in plug form without slicing. The name comes from the St. James Parish region of Louisiana where Perique is grown; this leaf is fermented under its own pressure in a barrel, adding a plum-like, peppery sharpness to the blend. Virginia's bready, fruity sweetness and Perique's spice meet in the middle in this record; nicotine is a bit above medium. The plug format keeps moisture inside, so the tobacco needs to be sliced with a knife or crumbled.
