Pipe Brands
Labuenapipa (Luis Wiesenthal)
A small Spanish pipe workshop run by Luis Wiesenthal in Jerez de la Frontera, known for his self-cured briar as well as his use of olive root.
Labuenapipa is a small handmade pipe workshop that operated in Jerez de la Frontera, the Andalusian city known for its wine. The workshop was run single-handedly by Luis Wiesenthal, whose birth year is recorded as 1951; the founding date is not clearly documented, and the information available dates mostly to the early 2010s. Given how narrow a circle pipe making occupies in Spain, the workshop is counted among the country's few independent ventures.
Founding the Workshop
By what is reported, Wiesenthal's working life was spent not in pipes but in wine: he ran a business in Jerez's cellars for many years, dabbling in oil and watercolor painting on the side. He founded his pipe bench as a continuation of this interest in handcraft, at a later stage in his career. What began as a hobby is said to have turned into full-time work over time. The workshop's scale never went beyond small-batch production at any point; every piece came from a single hand.
