MeerQueen Meerschaum Pipes is the brand name a Turkish workshop that carves block meerschaum in Eskişehir uses when presenting its products abroad. The same business is also known as MeerschaumStore, after the sales site it opened in 1999; MeerQueen is the umbrella identity brought to the fore in recent years and used with a registered mark.
In its own publications the brand carries the phrase "Est. 63" and states the business was founded in 1963 by a family elder surnamed Uzkesici.
A Conflict in the Records
The founding year does not converge on a single point. While the company's own statement gives 1963 and the Uzkesici name, the Pipedia record, based on the José Manuel Lopes compilation, ties the business to 1908 and the name Bahadır Baykal, writing that the business then passed to his son Kural. The gap between the two dates exceeds half a century, and neither has been confirmed by an independent document such as a trade registry. Here, the 1963 date the company has consistently repeated in its own publications is taken as the baseline, and 1908 is noted as an unconfirmed record.
