Midas Meerschaum
A contemporary meerschaum pipe workshop founded in Eskişehir, focused on classic shapes and hand-made stems.
Midas Meerschaum is a contemporary meerschaum pipe workshop working in Eskişehir. According to records, the workshop was founded by Amir Ebrahimi, known in the community simply as Emir. Production is not serial: each pipe is finished individually by hand, and the designs seek a balance useful in smoking rather than showiness.
Where the Name Comes From
The brand name comes from Midas, the Phrygian king whose name is linked with the legend of gold; the choice is geographical. The monumental rock façade in the village of Yazılıkaya in Eskişehir's Han district, dated to the 8th century BC and inscribed in the Phrygian alphabet — on which Midas's name can be read — is the most visible trace of the region's Phrygian past. Since the world's principal meerschaum deposits also lie within the same basin, the name unites, in a single word, both the ground the material comes from and the region's history.
