Ozgur Pipe

A meerschaum pipe maker based in Eskişehir. By its own account carving block stone since 2008, it stands out for classic and figural pipes as well as replacement meerschaum bowls fitted to the Falcon and Kirsten systems.

Ozgur Pipe is a Turkish meerschaum pipe maker based in Eskişehir; its name is written in foreign correspondence and in its domain name with Turkish characters dropped. In its own promotional materials the firm states that it has been engaged in stone carving since 2008, working with staff carvers as well as outside master carvers.

Most of what is known about the brand rests on this statement and on archived sales pages; the founder's name does not appear in independent records.

The Stone It Uses

The firm states that all of its products are carved from block meerschaum — that is, from stone worked in the solid form in which it emerges from the mine, rather than from material obtained by pressing crumbs and dust with a binder. According to its statement, the blocks it uses are Türkmentokat, Karatepe, and Margı stone, falling into the class known as "Sarısu."

These names correspond to actual mines in the region. In the geological literature, the nodular sepiolite deposits between Türkmentokat and Karatepe are known as the Sarısu Mines; Margı is likewise among the region's known extraction points. According to field records, the stone is extracted from narrow shafts dug by hand thirty to forty meters deep, and whether a given shaft will yield a block suitable for pipes cannot be known until digging is complete. The firm has not disclosed which mine it sources from or through which intermediary; this detail is often the workshop's own private knowledge within Eskişehir meerschaum carving.
