Mississippi River is among the best known of Seattle Pipe Club's Virginia-forward entries. Rich Virginia leaves are pressed into a cake; Oriental leaf, a pinch of Latakia, and Perique are added as accents. The Latakia share is not high enough to place the blend in the English class, only adding a smoky shade; the Perique opens up a plum-and-spice direction. According to the brand's account, the recipe's main line is based on a draft blendmaster Joe Lankford jotted down one night. The intense flavor that emerges after pressing preserves the Virginia base while also bringing out the layers of the accent leaves.
