North Star bereds genom att kombinera ljusa blad från Brasilien och Indien med mörka blad från Indonesien och Indien, och genom att göra en sås av lakrits. De ljusa bladen bidrar med sötma, de mörka med kropp och jordigt djup. Lakritstillsatsen är blandningens mest tydliga kännetecken; sötman är inte sockrig utan rotaktig och lätt bitter.
