Astley's No.2 Virginia Mixture is prepared by ribbon-blending red and golden Virginia leaf with Perique added on top. The red Virginias set a toasted, bready base, while the light-colored flue-cured leaves carry a tangy sweetness; the Perique is kept noticeable but not enough to take over the blend. Nicotine sits between light and medium, offering a mild smoke that isn't harsh on the tongue. The blend carries the name of Astley's, the tobacconist on Jermyn Street in London, and is produced today by Kohlhase & Kopp.
