Astley's No.44 Dark Virginia Flake

Astley's No.44 Dark Virginia Flake is a flake tobacco made by resting dark Virginia leaf under press before slicing. The brand traces its origins to the Astley's tobacconist founded in 1862 at 109 Jermyn Street, London; the blend is produced today by Kohlhase & Kopp. Since the leaf's sugars concentrate during pressing, the smoke brings out dark dried fruit, cooked sugar, and a tangy depth. Its body and flavor intensity are markedly higher than the brand's light-colored Virginia flakes.
